You can end up with a buffer with two different ways: 1- When you want to make a buffer with a specific pH and 2 when you end up with one by accident. For the first situation, you’ll need a weak acid and it’s conjugate base or with a weak base, which can be Ammonia or salt with a base similar to that of our weak acid. What happens is that the weak acid absorbs any strong base, interacting with the hydroxide ions to keep its pH changing and our weak base absorbs any positive hydrogen ion So, when you want to obtain a buffer with a pH you just have to use the equation and change it with different bases and its pKa to adjust them to the pH that is needed.
