Christmas in Peru!

Hello everyone!

I decided to write a special blog for this beautiful country, so let's begin!

One of the traditions that they have it's the Black Christmas where with dances and singings they commemorate the Birth of Jesus. First, the little ones start tapping in the floor as a promise to their ancestors to keep with the tradition, everything accompanied with instruments like the donkey jaw and the drawer, surely a joyful festivity.

There is also something called the "Santuranticuy" that means "the sale of all the saints" where the people sell their creations in the "Plaza de Armas" in Cusco; one thing that you can see in this place it's the Manuelito Child, the representation of Jesus Child, in this place it is said that the bell from the Cusco Cathedral are the one that announce its birth and not the ones from Belen.

There is also a "Misa del Gallo" where the families go with their Child the night of 24th of December. For dinner, the entire family gets together and eat turkey but they drink hot chocolate with cloves and cinnamon, "panetón" (a bread with raisins and candied fruits with a dome form), apple puree, and they drink Pisco Sour ( a cocktail made with grape brandy and lemon juice).

Here, the Inca and Spanish traditions are mixed bringing a beautiful culture with other things like Christmas Carols, little "nacimientos" (images or figures that represent the birth of Jesus) and the Children Fair.

Hope you enjoyed this post! I definitely enjoy writing them! Sheryl.
